N. GROSVENORDALE — Donna Grant, executive director of TEEG, has been appointed to serve on the State of Connecticut’s Commission on Children. Nominated by outgoing Senate President Pro Tempore Donald Williams Jr. Grant will serve as a voting member of the northeastern region of the state.
The state’s Commission on Children was established in 1985 by the Connecticut General Assembly to promote public policies in the best interest of children, to study national trends in child health and welfare, assess state programs and practices that affect children and to provide information and research data on children and children’s programs statewide. Additionally the Commission brings together individuals from various levels of government, the private sector, nonprofit agencies, philanthropy and families to strengthen child outcomes. The Commission meets regularly to make recommendations to the legislature and governor on system reforms, promote coordination of child and family programs statewide, evaluate programmatic changes and make assessment data available to the public.
In making this appointment Williams said,  “The Commission will be well-served by Donna’s experience and knowledge regarding children’s issues. Her voice, representing children and families of northeast Connecticut, will be important in the statewide conversation of the children’s agenda.”
“I am honored at the opportunity to represent the children of our region as a member of the Commission on Children,” said Grant. “Serving on the commission will allow me to share from my lifetime of experience working with children, while learning from the wealth of knowledge provided by the other commission members. I look forward to bringing a voice from Northeastern Connecticut to the table, and learning about other state initiatives working to improve the lives of children and families.”
Grant’s appointment expires on June 30, 2016. She has served Northeast Connecticut children, youth and families as the executive director of TEEG since 1999.
