Laura Salo's
quilts exhibited
PUTNAM — An art exhibit featuring the works of quilter Laura Salo will be on display at The Corridor Gallery at the Putnam Municipal Complex, through March 30.
An Opening Reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4 in the Gallery. The reception is free and open to the public. The show is sponsored by the Putnam Arts Council. For hours and more information please visit PutnamCtArtsCouncil.com.
The show, titled “The Year Through Quilts” will feature a colorful display of her handmade quilts and banners, each depicting a season of the year.
Salo has been sewing since the age of 10, a gift that was nurtured by her 4-H leader, Vivian Wilson, and her neighbor, Maureen Rosenfield. “I would love to show these women my work now,” she said.
She sewed her own clothes as well as her children’s. She began sewing quilts for her daughters’ doll beds and her love of quilting grew from there. Her favorite projects are holiday pieces because “they are smaller and more manageable than large bed quilts.”
She is currently a member of Cornerstone Quilters Guild in Charlton.
