Town Crier Editor
PUTNAM — Weather permitting, the Bandstand paint job should be finished soon.
April 21 the Bradley Painting crew was finishing the Peel Bond Primer which will help prevent the new paint from peeling. The crew has already scraped, power washed and scraped again.
Painting should begin April 27 and it would take five days.
The town has asked the roofing contractor to return with his crane to paint the base of the cupola and the section of wall above the stage as the painter cannot get to those two spots.
Trim and cross beams will also be painted. The original custom colors will be used.
Decorative finials on the two peaks below the cupola peak also serve as lightning rods.
When the painting is complete the rope lighting along the roof peaks will be re-installed — this time with LED lights.
The roof was replaced with a red, standing-seam, roof metal roof.
The brick will be power washed, completing the Bandstand’s return to its original good looks.

Crowning Glory
This topper for the Gertrude Chandler Warner Boxcar Children’s Museum sign was built and donated by Ryan Godsoe of Raven Hill Woodworking, Holderness, N.H., a nephew of Pat Hedenberg. Her grandson, Kyle Kreyssig of Voluntown, installed it. The funds for the sign itself were donated last fall by Jewett City Savings Bank. Hedenberg said: “Ryan’s business is creating handmade built-in furniture so when his favorite aunt asked him to create something special for the Boxcar, how could he say no? Kyle just graduated from college and while job hunting he had time to help. Lucky me!” Why books? Warner was a children’s book author and teacher extraordinaire. “What could be better than books for Gertrude’s sign?”
