Emergency Training Exercise
Aug. 6 Putnam Emergency Management Director Scott Belleville, Putnam High School Principal Heather Taylor, and Putnam Public Schools Assistant Facilities Director Troy Mayo attended a regional school reunification exercise at East Lyme High School. The exercise was based on the emergency evacuation of a school and a controlled reunification between students and parents with a focus on accountability and security. “Before the Sandy Hook tragedy, there wasn’t much thought or planning put into reunification. Today we work hard to limit the chaos and confusion. We may only have one shot at getting it right and that’s why we practice, review, make necessary adjustments, and practice again. In Emergency Management we plan for all hazard emergencies, but we also plan for an expedited and equitable recovery. Thank you to East Lyme Emergency Management for hosting the exercise, CT Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (CT DEHMS) for the grant funding, and to CT DEHMS School Safety and Security Committee for creating an informative and well organized exercise,” said Belleville.
