Putnam a magic machine
PUTNAM — “Now more than ever we need magic,” said producer Frank Durant. And out of all the choices for a place to film the magic, Putnam won, hands down.
The psychological thriller, currently named “Vigilance,” is being filmed in Putnam and its environs. Durant said most of the talent for the film lives in between Boston and Hartford so he looked between those cities for sites to film the movie.
There were five places in the running. The quality of seclusion, how picturesque the area was were important. Putnam had that but what tipped the balance was how helpful Putnam was. Durant had been working with ECD/Redevelopment Director Mary Ann Chinatti for a while. He said Putnam’s “How can we help out” beat out the other four sites.
They filmed in the Putnam Public Library and also at a secluded parcel in Woodstock.
Actor Gary Lahti said he plays one of the driving forces of a family in the thriller.
Durant said he believes the movie will be ready in early 2026. But in the meantime, inspired by telling stories with the camera, he said he is enjoying the journey.
Films are magical, he said. The dream element is vital.
