Sherrill Dehner Jr.,

BROOKLYN — Sherrill C. “Duke” Dehner Jr. 81, of Bunny Lane, died May 2, 2010, at Regency Health Care in Danielson. He was the husband of Janet R. (Stump) Dehner. He was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Oil City, Penn., son of the late Sherrill C. and Mary Louise (Downing) Dehner.
He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy; he served four years in the Navy as a metal smith. He was a natural athlete and excelled in sports, including bowling and baseball, he was a star baseball pitcher during his youth. He had a great love for the game of baseball. He also enjoyed league bowling, hunting, fishing and pitching softball games. In 1958 he moved to the Killingly area, as a transfer to work at Knox Glass., working as a foreman in the glass production “Hot End.” He retired in 1985. After retirement he worked for NAPA delivering parts for six years. He was a former member of the Danielson Elks and the Moose Club in Oil City.
He leaves his wife, Janet; son, Dale Eiler (Kimberly) of Brooklyn; daughters: Joanne Eiler of Freehold, N.J., Gale Williams of Danielson, Cynthia Dehner of Brooklyn, Cheryl Dehner of Seneca, Penn.; sisters, Doris Richey of Rouseville, Penn., Janice Deibold of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Sherrill C. Dehner III, and a daughter Linda Kuchy.
The Funeral was May 8 at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home , 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, with burial with military honors in South Cemetery, Brooklyn. Donations: Diabetes Program of Day Kimball Hospital, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

Angelo Criscione,

Putnam/Simsbury — Angelo Criscione, 93, died May 8, 2010. Born in 1916 in Ragusa, Sicily, he was the son of the late Joseph and Santa (Russo) Criscione.  He came to the U.S. as a boy and became a citizen. 
As a teenager Angelo lived with his family in New York helping with support by selling firewood and newspapers with his younger brother.  Angelo served in the 195th Army Corp of Engineers during WWII in the African campaign.  He trained as a fine art lithographer at The Cooper Union in New York, and is a member of the Amalgamated Lithographer’s Union.  As a young man Angelo exhibited his artistic talent and enjoyed a life-long love of painting with shows in the tri-state area. 
Angelo met his wife of 63 years, Jean (Herlihy) Criscione in New York.  They were married in St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, and settled in New Jersey to raise their three children: Karen, Elaine, and Donald.  Angelo and Jean retired to Simsbury in 1992. 
In addition to his wife, Angelo, he leaves two daughters, Karen Bushong (David), and Elaine Criscione; son, Donald Criscione (Mary); brother Sam Criscione (Helen); his six grandchildren, Bryan, Nickel, Krista, Timothy, Andrew and Kevin.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. May 12 at Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. Putnam, followed by Mass and Burial at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam. 

Germaine Gancarz,

BROOKLYN — Germaine M. Gancarz, 85, of Christian Hill Road, died May 6, 2010, at Day Kimball Hospital after an illness. She was the wife of Michael Gancarz. They were married May 1, 1948. He died Oct. 20, 2006.
She was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Wauregan, daughter of the late Arthur and Celanise (Kerouack) Brodeur. She made her home in Wauregan for more than 50 years. She worked as a weaver, at the Wauregan Mills, Ponemah Mills in Taftville, and at Hale Manufacturing Company in Central Village and Stafford Springs. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Wauregan. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, caring for her yard, cutting grass and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox baseball and the UConn women’s basketball.
She leaves her children, Earl M. Gancarz (Annette) of Brooklyn, Wanda A. Hicks (Rodney) of Pomfret; sister, Sr. Louis Ernest Brodeur, DHS of Putnam; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 10 of her siblings.

Sr. Muriel
Lusignan, DHS
PUTNAM — Sr. Muriel Lusignan, DHS, 86, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died May 8, 2010, at Holy Spirit Provincial House, Putnam.
Sr.  Muriel was born on Dec. 3, 1923, in Pittsfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Arthur and Marguerite (Maurier) Lusignan. 
She entered religious life in 1942 and made her religious profession on Aug. 18, 1947, at the Holy Spirit Provincial House, Putnam.
She was then known as Sr. Arthur Marguerite.
A graduate of Annhurst College, Sr. Muriel earned her master’s degree in business education from the Catholic University, Washington, D.C. 
She taught briefly at St. Louis School in New Haven and in 1953 she was assigned to teach in the Business Department at Annhurst College. In 1965 she was assigned to St. Bernard High School in New London first as vice principal and later principal for a total of seven years.
 In 1972 she went back to Annhurst College where in addition to her teaching duties she served as financial aid director and later dean of Students.
 From 1980 until 1999 she was appointed office manager of the Admissions Office at the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, Mass. 
In the fall of 1999, she was appointed business manager at the Development Office of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit.
She leaves  nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial was May 11 in the Provincial House Chapel followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam. Donations: Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT. 06260.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.

Anthony Yarrow Jr.

DANIELSON — Anthony “Little Tony” Yarrow Jr., 51, of Wyndham Landing, died  May 8, 2010, in Day Kimball Hospital.  Born in 1958 in Waterbury, he was the son of Marion (Noble) Yarrow, and the late Anthony D. Yarrow Sr.
Mr. Yarrow worked as a surveyor for several companies including KWP, CME, CPK, and Dick Corporation. 
He loved boating and the ocean, as well as motocross racing.  He also enjoyed flying and had his pilot’s license. 
In addition to his mother, Anthony leaves his sister, Dr. Deborah Yarrow and her companion Donald Hemmer of Guilford; and his companion, Hannah Nason of Danielson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9 a.m. June 12, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Donations: Hospice of Northeast CT, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.

Edward A. Negip,

THOMPSON — Edward Alush Negip, 70, of Hill Road, died May 8, 2010, in Worcester.  He was the husband of Beverly (Valade) Negip.  Born in 1940 in N. Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Alush and Stella (Lenky) Negip.
Mr. Negip began working as an insurance salesman for Archambault Insurance Associates.  He then became a partner in the Negip-Naum Insurance Agency for 10 years before joining Commerce Insurance from where he retired in 2005.   He was a past member of the Thompson Lions Club and the Putnam Elks Club.  He was passionate about golf.  He also took great pleasure in working around his home and caring for his property, especially while on his John Deere tractor. 
In addition to his wife, Edward leaves his son, David Negip (Kate) of Fort Myers, Fla.;  his son-in-law, Charles LeVine Jr. of Pomfret Center; brother, Maurice Negip of Webster; three sisters, Helen Fontaine of Southbridge, Stasia Buczynski of Eagle River, AK, Virginia Lavallee of Charlton; four grandchildren, Charles, Nathan, Katherine and Madeline.  He was the father of the late Judith (Negip) LeVine (1969 – 2006) and the brother of the late Emile Negip, Theresa LeBoeuf, Doris Augustynski and Richard Negip.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Edward’s family from 4 to 7 p.m. May 12 in Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.  A gathering will begin at 10 a.m.  May 13 in the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in N. Craig Trombley,

WOODSTOCK — Craig Trombley, died unexpectedly April 30, 2010, at UMass Memorial Healthcare after a very brief illness.  He was born in 1969.
Craig was an avid horseman: riding, showing, and caring for horses since the age of 5, when he started riding his pony, Blueberry.  Craig earned a living as a master farrier, taking care of a great many horses for owners throughout the northeast corner of Connecticut.
He leaves Brianna Schnaidtacher, with whom he lived; mother, Sandra Trombley of Florida; father Richard Trombley; grandmother Rae Williams of Woodstock; aut Anita Williams of Woodstock, and his extended family at Trapalanda Stables.

Harold F. Herre Jr.,

WOODSTOCK — Harold F. Herre Jr., 71, of Rocky Hill Road, died April 27, 2010, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” (Spraske) Herre. She died Dec. 24, 2002. He was born Aug. 24, 1938, in New Britain, son of Harold F. and Alice M. (Cofran) Herre Sr.,
He worked in maintenance for Steve Bousquet’s Appliance & TV in Danielson.  He lived in Woodstock all his life and was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. He had a great love for his dogs. He was a great fan of auto racing and attended many events at the Stafford Motor Speedway. He enjoyed auctions, eating out, antique cars, scrapbooking and was a huge fan of the UConn women’s basketball.
He leaves his companion and best friend, Beverly Demers of Putnam; a son Harold F. Herre III of Portsmouth, N.H., a daughter, Donna of Norwich; two close friends Marc Lambert of Woodstock and Kathleen Donovan of Putnam, a sister Barbara Herre of Woodstock. He was predeceased by a sister Loretta Lyon.
The Funeral was May 4 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, with burial in Barlow Cemetery Woodstock. Donations: American Cancer Society.

Gertrude Morse,

WEBSTER  — Gertrude C. (Odermann) Morse, 88, formerly of Thompson, died May 7, 2010, in Oakwood Rehab & Nursing Center after a long illness. Her husband of 38 years, G. Latham Morse Sr., died in 1995. She was born in Manchester, a daughter of John and Mary C. (Berrang) Odermann. She lived in Tarrytown, N.Y., from 1957 to 1976, when she moved to Thompson. She lived at Christopher Heights in recent years. Mrs. Morse was the secretary for the attorney of the State of Connecticut Department of Public Works for 20 years. She then was assistant manager at Beneficial Finance Company in Tarrytown for 19 years before retiring. She was a member of the Church of the Reconciliation in Webster, where she sang in the choir. She leaves two sons, Robert Skopek and his wife Joyce of Mansfield, and G. Latham Morse Jr. of Phoeniz; three grandchildren, Aaron, Shauna and Bryant. The funeral was May 11 in the Church of the Reconciliation, with burial in E. Thompson Cemetery.  Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, Webster.
