Hyde hosts
private school
Division III meet
WOODSTOCK --- May 15, Hyde School hosted more than 16 track teams on its Woodstock campus for the New England Private Schools Track Association (NEPSTA) Division III meet.
This was the first year that the NEPSTA meet was hosted on the Hyde School campus. Previously, the meet was held at Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island.
Attending teams included Bancroft School, Canterbury School, Cheshire Academy, Concord Academy, Groton School, Hebron Academy, Hyde School of Maine, Kingswood Oxford School, Lawrence Academy, Marianapolis Preparatory School, Middlesex School, Moses Brown School, Portsmouth Abbey School, Providence Country Day School, Roxbury Latin School, St. George’s School, Vermont Academy, Wheeler School, and Wilbraham and Monson Academy.
Overall, the Hyde School placed 10th for the girls’ team, and the boys’ team tied for seventh place with the Canterbury School.
Individual standout performances came from Nora Curran ’10, Shawn Campbell PG, and Lexi Burke ‘10. Curran placed first in the pole vault, breaking the school record by vaulting 8 feet. Campbell placed first in the 100-meter race, the 200-meter race, and the long jump, breaking the New England record for the long jump by 9 inches, with a jump of 23 feet and 2 inches. Burke placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet, 11 ½ inches.
“The meet was a great success,” said Assistant Head of School John Rigney, who also co-directed the meet. “It was great to have all of the teams on campus, and the meet ran smoothly. We look forward to hosting it again next year.”
