In Pomfret Little League action last week:
Archambault Insurance
The Archambault Insurance Red Sox  tangled with their counterparts from Putnam. The Pomfret Eastford team ran into some tough pitching May 25 as Putnam’s Nick Foucault stuck out 11 batters in five innings. The Putnam Red Sox put together a few timely hits and took advantage of a couple of miscues to come away with a 7-2 victory.  Dan Whittenburg had 2 hits and scored both runs for Pomfret Eastford.  Nick Kowalchuk had a hit and an RBI.
May 29 the Pomfret Eastford team returned the favor with an 8-2 victory in Putnam.  Jack Archambault threw four strong innings with 7 strikeouts and Dan Whittenburg closed it out with two solid innings in relief.  Kyle Ciquera hit a bomb over the bleachers in left center for Putnam, but those were all the fireworks Putnam could muster.  Archambault had 3 hits, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for Pomfret Eastford.  The birthday boys Max Mullin and Tyler Lefebvre each scored 2 runs.  Mullin and Lefebvre also played some stellar defense.  Mullin made a beautiful play on a hot smash to third in the 6th inning, and Lefebvre had 4 assists at second base.  Whittenburg and Ben DiIorio each contributed a couple of hits to the attack.
Pete’s Drive-In      
In the sweltering heat the Dodgers opened their week at the Eastford field against the Putnam Pirates. The game turned out to be one of the best pitching  duals of the season as Josh Allard baffled the Dodgers while striking out 14 through five innings. Conor Hanlon kept the pace with 12 strikeouts through 5 and Zach Gagnon knocked in 2 runs with a triple to keep the Dodgers in the game.  The Pirates entered the 6th inning with a 5-2 lead when the Dodgers began their comeback. Nate DeLuca and Conor Hanlon singled, Zach Gagnon battled to a base on balls and Alec Aleszczyk cleared the bases with a gapper. Alec came in to pitch the sixth inning as the Pirates rallied. The Dodgers put out the tying run at the plate and Zach Gagnon made a diving catch for the final out of the evening to seal a 5-6 win.
May 28 the Dodgers visited Brooklyn for a game. The Dodger jumped to a quick 9-0 lead in the first inning behind doubles by Kyle Lingard, Nate DeLuca and Cal Wilcox. Nate also hit his second home run of the year and singled in the game. Nick Allesandro had two base hits. Peter Calabrese pitched and picked up the win with relief help from Danny Harrington, Luke Mathewson and Alec Aleszczyk closing. The final score was Dodger 12 – Brooklyn  9.
The matchup May 29 brought the Putnam Pirates to Pomfret for another pitching dual. The game was a shut out through the first three innings before the Dodgers struck in the bottom of the fourth.  Alec Aleszczyk pitched five innings for the win and Kyle Lingard closed the game for a save. Danny Harrington and Peter Calabrese each had a base hit and a  triple,  Conor Hanon had a two-run double and Cal Wilcox added a couple of hits.  Luke Mathewson and Tyler King also had base hits. The final score was the Dodgers 9 Pirates 4.
