The Pomfret Youth Lacrosse Boys Junior team capped at a very successful season by receiving the Sportsmanship Award at the Paul Bowers Lacrosse Tournament held June 6 in Somers.
More than 30 teams at the junior level (5th and 6th grade) competed.
The Sportsmanship Award is selected by the officials of each game for strong play and great sportsmanship throughout the tournament. PYL played four games and finished the day with a record of 3-0-1. The day featured wins over West Hartford, Suffield, and Windsor, and a tie in the final game against a second West Hartford team.
Highlights of the day included Max Paro earning a shutout in goal against Windsor, and Conor Quinn scoring his first goal of the season in the same game. Excellent defense was played by Chris Rovero, Lex Bosio, Josh McFadden, and Nick Alessandro. The PYL midfielders --- Evan Cunningham, Davis Chase, Nathan Deluca, Jack Liggett, Cahan Quinn, Chris Santangini, and Zach Gagnon --- were able to run all day as they played both ends of the field,  offense and defense. Cunningham, Chase, and Quinn were particularly effective facing off and maintaining possession. On the attack, Tucker Johns, Tucker Sheehan, and Peyton Durand led a high-scoring crew that moved the ball exceptionally well and finished off several great, assisted goals.
The Bowers Tournament ends the season for the Pomfret Youth Lacrosse Boys teams. This spring, the program offered three levels of play for more than 60 boys, and two levels for 20 girls.  Spring of 2011 will mark the seventh year for Pomfret Youth Lacrosse. Look for signup information beginning in December.
