PUTNAM — The Putnam Bank Foundation donated $1,250 to Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters for ongoing support of their mentoring programs for at-risk children in northeast Connecticut, including  Putnam, Killingly, Pomfret and Plainfield. The northeast Connecticut mentoring program was established in 2008, due in large part to funding provided by the Putnam Bank Foundation.
Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is to improve the lives of at-risk children by creating and maintaining safe and nurturing one-to-one relationships between the children and professionally trained adult volunteers. Benefits for the children include improved academic performance, enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence, stronger family relationships and the development of new skills and interests.
Putnam Bank was recognized by Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters with a Community Partnership Award in recognition of their contributions to the organization.
“With the assistance of Putnam Bank,” said Laura Green, president and CEO of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, “we’ve been able to benefit a great many deserving children in the area. In addition to generous financial donations to us, senior management at Putnam Bank has taken a decidedly hands-on approach to youth mentoring. Bob Halloran, Putnam Bank’s president, sits on our Northeast Advisory Council, and has been a mentor to a 12-year-old local boy.”
“My experience in the Big Brother program has been more rewarding than I had ever imagined,” said Halloran. “I feel that I get just as much out of our time together as my Little Brother does. I appreciate all that Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters does for our community.”
