The road had a few more twists and turns than he initially thought it would, but in the end Elijah Hutchins-Everett navigated his way through and ended up in what he believes is the right spot.
PSA’s 6-foot, 10-inch postgrad player announced last month that he was committing to play basketball on a full scholarship at Austin Peay University, in Clarksville, Tenn. Hutchins-Everett had initially committed to Penn State University, but a coaching change there led to him reopening his recruitment. After a couple of flirtations with other schools, he decided on the Governors, who went 14-13 this past season, 10-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Hutchins-Everett averaged 8.8 points and 4.5 rebounds this season, though he played in just eight games. He took time away from basketball and the team in late February after the death of a close family member.
The Mustangs missed his size and presence in the post and his experience on the court.
Hutchins-Everett played a major role in helping Putnam Science Academy win a national championship in 2019-20.
“I’m very happy for Elijah,” said PSA coach Tom Espinosa. “He’s come a long way and he has put in the work. We definitely worked him hard here, and he responded. If he does that at Austin Peay, and I believe he will, he’s only going to keep getting better. He’s got a good future ahead of him.”
