WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Fair and Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced the five bands that will be competing in the 2019 Battle of the Bands at the Woodstock Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 on the Main Stage.
The competition will be Connecticut’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival and each of the five bands will be performing only music that was played at Woodstock Music Festival.
The bands will be competing for a share of $17,000 in prize money and the title of “Connecticut Band of the Year.”
The bands chosen (in alphabetical order) are:
Among the Acres - A home base in Hartford, the band garnered local acclaim, being voted “Best New Band 2018 ” and “Best Americana/ Country Artist 2019” by readers of Hartford Courant and are being asked to record their debut album at the Telefunken Soundstage.
Balkun Brothers - Born and raised in Hartford, the Balkun Brothers have been impressing crowds from Paris to Amsterdam to Los Angeles including appearances at famed venues such as BB Kings Blues Club in New York City and Cabaret Sauvage in Paris, France.
Hollister Thompson Band – Based in Connecticut, the band most recently performed at Mohegan Sun’s Comix Road House.

All of the bands will play for 30-minutes and will be judged by a celebrity panel including Governor Lamont.
One of the criteria for the judging will be crowd participation so fans of the bands or just fans of the music played at the Woodstock Music Festival are invited to come and play a large role in the outcome of the competition.
