Cultural Week
In May Pomfret Community School went on an imaginary trip to Finland this year thanks to the PTO, Frank Aleman and the Finnish American Heritage Society. In May students learned about Finnish culture all week long with exhibits, demonstrations and Finnish dancing. Docents gave presentations in classrooms. Authentic items from Finland were exhibited as well as a table of Finnish pulla, delicious bread. Students were treated to a performance of Finnish music, dance and culture. PUTNAM — Day Kimball Healthcare’s (DKH) 16th Annual Cruisin’ for Cancer Care Motorcycle and Car Cruise raised $7,495 to benefit the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH.
This event has contributed $118,495 to for the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH, which provides financial assistance for cancer-related screening and treatment services to individuals living in northeastern Connecticut who otherwise may not have the financial resources to pay for needed medical care.
More than 200 motorcyclists and classic car enthusiasts joined in for the scenic ride that covered over 40.
“With the generosity and enthusiasm of our riders, cruisers, volunteers and sponsors, DKH is able to continue to be at the heart of cancer care for patients across Northeast Connecticut,” said DKH Director of Development Kristen Willis.

Completes program
WATERFORD — Sonya Armstrong of Brooklyn, a Charter Oak Federal Credit Union assistant vice president and regional retail sales manager, successfully completed the Credit Union League of Connecticut’s management program for high-potential executives.
Armstrong has been with Charter Oak since 2005. Prior to her promotion to assistant vice president and regional retail sales manager, she had served as the branch officer of Charter Oak’s Dayville, Willimantic, and Killingly High School branches. Michael Ballirano also completed the program.
