POMFRET — In its town wide branding study the Economic Planning Development Commission and citizens used maps of the town recently to determine where the strengths of the community lie along with opportunities for growth.
Charlie Tracy, chairman of the EPDC, said the next steps will include collating the data and working toward a better understanding of what Pomfret has to offer and how best to use this information to help keep Pomfret “an awesome place to live and grow.”
The commission has a survey for residents to contribute to the process at: Pomfretct.gov. “This survey will be left on line throughout the branding study to allow as many people as possible to offer their opinions about our town,” Tracy said.

man an arrest
PUTNAM — A local man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after traffic stop March 17.
A Putnam Police officer saw some suspicious activity in the Franklin-Wilkinson streets area and noticed the vehicle leaving the area had a cancelled registration out of Rhode Island.
According to police, the driver, Justin Bell, 35, of 19 Dupre Road in Woodstock, was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. Bell said the vehicle did not belong to him and was being borrowed with permission from the vehicle’s owner. Bell and his passenger contacted the vehicle’s owner who would arrive on foot momentarily thereafter at the scene of the traffic stop.
The vehicle’s owner was Eric Bonin, 33, of 76 Van Den Noort St., Putnam. Bonin was unable to provide proof of insurance of the vehicle which was confirmed after contacting Foster, R.I. police department.
A third man came up, Zachariah Irwin, 28, of 76 Van Den Noort St., and said he was there to help Bonin.
It was found that Irwin had an active arrest warrant held by the Putnam Police Department. Police said while processing Irwin for the active warrant it was determined that the Oxford Massachusetts Police Department held an active and extraditable arrest warrant for Irwin for violation of abuse prevention order. Oxford Police confirmed that they would extradite, and Irwin was additionally charged with fugitive from justice.
Charges from the stop were: Bell for operating a motor vehicle under suspension and operating an unregistered motor vehicle; for Bonin for allowing the use of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance. Irwin was charged with sixth-degree larceny and fugitive from justice.
