Putnam pg 10 6-3-10



In Putnam Little League action last week:
Police Association Pirates ( 2 wins 6 losses,6-9 overall )
Joshua Allard has a cannon for an arm, just ask the Pomfret Dodgers. On the 25th Josh struck out 13 batters in five innings with a blazing fastball. The Pirates had a comfortable lead until Josh hit his pitching limit and had to be replaced on the mound. Unfortunately for the Pirates the relief could not hold and they fell 7-6. Brevon Harmon went 2-4 and scored a run. JonLuc Cournoyer went 2-4 and Zach Cutler was 2-4 with 2 runs scored.Angelo Desalvio ripped a double going 1-2 with a run.  The Pirates lost game two of the series 9-4. JonLuc Cournoyer pitched 4 innings, surrendering only one run with nine strikeouts. Brevon Harmon made a great play from shortstop when a ball took a nasty hop off the lip of the grass. Holding his ground he made the catch and gunned the runner down at first. Harmon went 1-3 with a double. Defense was the theme of the day as Jakob Presott made an over the shoulder catch bringing the crowd to its feet to cheer. Jakob is a 9 year old phenom and plays like a mini Roberto Clemente, fielding at an unbelievable 1.000% . Opposing coaches all marvel at what a potential talent this kid is gonna be. Jacob Straub  hit 2-2 with a double and a run scored,Noah Mailloux went 1-3.Ryan Whitehouse was a perfect 1-1,hitting a double and had two walks, Angelo Desalvio batted 2-3. In non conference action the Pirates beat the Woodstock A’s 10-8 with an eight run 6th inning rally. Cutler pitched the first four innings with 3 k’s. Jakob Prescott came in to finish the game needing only 16 pitches to end the game and earning the save. Next opponent: Chase Graphics Dodgers June 3rd.
Putnam Vision Center Red Sox ( 3 wins 5 losses, 7-7 overall )
Back, back, back... and its out of here! Kyle Ciquera continues to lead the Red Sox in batting, hitting his fourth homerun of the season keeping pace with his two pals on the Dodgers. The Red Sox split a pair of games with the Archambault Insurance Red Sox of Pomfret. In the first game Nicholas Foucault was un hittable  with 12 k’s as the Red Sox cruised to a 7-1 win. Aiden Ciquera, Cheese, Kristian Burke and Nathan Tozzi all had hits for Putnam and each scored a run. Tristan Vanscoy knocked the cover off of the ball hitting his first homerun of the year. Nicholas Foucault went 3-3 and was a terror on the bases.In the second game Nathan Tozzi, Kyle Ciquera, Tristan Vanscoy and Kristian Burke all pitched as the Red Sox lost 8-1. Kyle Ciquera hit a monster homerun into the stands of the next field surprising the spectators of that game. Putnam could not muster enough offense to keep pace, with each of their innings ending with runners on base. Vanscoy hit a triple;Foucault had two doubles and a web gem defensive play reaching for a ball behind second, spinning and throwing the runner out from mid air. Nicholas is one of the best defenders in the league.  Next opponent: Paquette Electric Tigers June 3rd.
Chase Graphics Dodgers ( 6 wins 2 losses, 13-2 overall )
The Dodgers locked down first place with three more wins this week. In the first of a two game series against the Paquette Electric Tigers of Pomfret the Dodgers had a 23 hit attack and won 16-6. Shawn Audet started for Putnam blanking the tigers for three innings and was spotted a 10 run lead by the offense. Ryan Renshaw hit his first homerun of the season, Audet hit his second. Kyle Loomis blasted his fourth to bring him into a tie for the league leader in homeruns. Cole Andersen went 2-3 and scored three runs. Jacob Guertin stole the show with a 5 for 5 performance including four singles, a double and five runs scored. In the second game of the series the Dodgers wasted no time and scored 11 in the first inning en route to a 15-1 win. Jacob Guertin surrendered only 2 hits and earned his 6th win striking out eight Pomfret batters. Jacob has only given up eight runs all season.  Steven Dakai went 2-2 with a double,a triple and three runs scored. Steven leads the league with a .800 batting average and is tied for most homeruns. Ryan Renshaw went 2-2 and scored twice;Cole Andersen was 1-1. Conor Quinn had two walks and Jacob Guertin went 2-3 with a triple and two runs. Shawn Audet had two great defensive plays throwing out runners from the shortstop and catcher positions. Shawn is one of the most versatile players in the league and has played all nine positions and played them well. The Dodgers also had a non conference game against the Woodstock Red Sox. Cole Andersen pitched for the 7-5 win and Ryan Renshaw went 3-3 driving in 5 runs. Next opponent: Police Association Pirates June 3rd.
Putnam will be having playoffs June 7 and 9 at Murphy Park to determine which team will represent them in the Phaneuf League Championship with Pomfret/Eastford on June 12. The games are free and very exciting!
