Beware pg 3 8-5-10

The Northeast District Department of Health (NDDH) is advising northeastern Connecticut residents to ask to see proper identification when dealing with health department personnel.
The department recently learned of a fraudulent late-night telephone called placed to a Brooklyn resident. The caller posed as a health department inspector and insisted on gaining entry to the home to investigate an alleged complaint. The homeowner refused the request and contacted the state police.
“All NDDH personnel wear identification when out in the field,” reported Linda J. Colangelo, NDDH Director of Health Education and Communications. “Typical health department business is conducted Monday through Friday from 7am to 4pm. On occasion, public health emergencies may require contact by the health department at other times. Homeowners and business owners should not allow entry of anyone claiming to be a health inspector or official without proper identification. If in doubt, they should call the health department at 860-774- 7350 for verification. Never allow anyone entry if they are unknown to you and are not carrying valid identification.”
Residents were also reminded to contact local police if they are concerned for their safety.
