Putnam Science basketball continues to roll
It was another convincing win for Putnam Science Academy to improve to 7-0 on the season and bring their winning streak to 40 consecutive games. Jalen Taggart was the leading scorer in the 121-75 win over West Nottingham Academy.
Taggart dropped 30 points while shooting 40% from three. Taggart attributed the fast first half start to how the team played the rest of the way. “Usually when we have good starts, we have good games. Every time we keep the energy, we’re good,” Taggart said. Jordan Skyers contributed 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in the win. Adama Tambedou had a 20 point, 11 rebound double-double. Favour Egbuna also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and also added 3 assists and 2 steals. The human highlight reel, Kamai Samuels poured in 13 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. David Gaymon chipped in 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists for PSA. Brayson Green put in 11 points while battling injuries in the early stages of the season.
Green has seen some more minutes after slowly coming back from a foot injury. He said, “It felt really nice getting back with the guys. Trying to get my shot back right, just trying to get back with the routine and get back to playing hard.” Green says he is hopeful to be 100% in a week or two.
Against Bright School PSA did some skunking. Jalen Taggart was the leading scorer, with a game-high 26 points in Putnam Science Academy’s 141-63 win over the Bright School. Taggart was 6-6 from two-point range while shooting 44% from the three-point line. David Gaymon scored 24 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Jordan Skyers shot a ridiculous 84% from the field with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Kamai Samuels added16 points along with 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Adama Tambeduo had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sedar Sene and Owen Crowley each had eight points apiece. Coach Tom Espinosa said the team saw blood on the defensive end as the attack was constant and relentless. “It’s what we preach; it’s Putnam basketball; it’s hard to do because we’re not really 10 deep right now,” he added. He also commended the group on buying into the defense despite the lack of depth the team faces due to players missing time with various injuries. Defense is the identity of this program and players who buy into, like this group has, will be successful during their time here. Putnam Science was home for four straight games, he said. He added the team has built a lot of confidence playing in their home gym. “It built a lot of confidence for a lot of guys. It gave us some momentum.” Do not think for a second that this trip to Boston has gone under the radar. It was this time last year that the Mustangs last lost before embarking on a 33-game winning streak culminating with its 5th national championship. “Trust me, we’ve talked about this trip to Boston with this group. They’re aware it’s our last two losses. I think we will be ready to play,” Espinosa said. Putnam Science is now 8-0 on the season. They have extended their winning streak to 41 games.By Ben Heacox

All 11 players had to play the full 45 minutes,” Caio DaSilva was the lone goal scorer for PSA on a penalty shot. Both goalkeepers, Joao Lavandoski and Joao (Joaozinho) Delmar were stout in goal making key saves to keep the Mustangs in the game. It was a drastic improvement from the last time the teams met on the pitch. Woodstock won the previous matchup 6-0.

Football
The word of the night was: overdue. The PSA Mustangs football team found itself in the win column for the first time this season, defeating Connecticut State 58-26. Music and jubilation blasted throughout the locker room following the game. Smiles painted the faces of players who have worked so hard to get this result. The team played a well-rounded game.
Getting it done on the ground, through the air and on the defensive side of the football. Donovan Darden and Aeden Gonzales each had a pick six. “The win feels good, very long overdue, finally putting somewhat of a complete game together,” said Head Coach Mook Zimmerman. “This is the result.” The win sets the program back on track following last year. “Last year we were a winning program; we were a program who came out week in and week out and showed teams who we were. It was good to get back into PSA winning ways,” he added.
Quarterback Demarcus Williams could see the progress the team was making leading up to this point. In the early stages of the season Williams mentioned that the team was still trying to find its way following this game’s output; it seems they may have found something “Now we know what we got since we’ve been putting all our pieces together, “ said Williams. “It feels great; it feels unreal to get a win because it’s the first one of the season. You get that first taste of a win, it’s unimaginable,” Williams added.
All facets of the game were working for the Mustangs. “The pass, the run, quarterback runs, running back runs; we got receivers doing good,” said lineman Chase Salters. “This is what happens when we all do our jobs.” Wide receiver Jordan Melendez also expressed the importance of bottling this performance and transferring this to the team’s next two games. One aspect that he alluded to was the teams’ tempo. “We just have to keep coming out firing like we did today and not let teams catch up to us once we keep getting up on that tempo,” Melendez said.
