PUTNAM --- The Putnam Clipper softball teams continues to struggle.
Ledyard was a blowout 18-0. Clipper Head Coach Stephen Smith said the Clippers had no hits.
May 21 the Lady Clippers played at Windham High School. Windham won the game 12-2. The Lady Clippers were led by sophomores Megan Heaney and Holly Desrosiers, each had a hit in the game. "I can’t say enough about coach Steve Gonzales and the Windham program," said Smith. "He made one of the most sportsman like decisions that I can think of. He played some of his varsity and junior varsity players to even it out a little. And it worked. Our girls left that game with their heads held high," Smith said. "We played a decent game. We made some mistakes in the field that led to Windham having a couple big innings but overall we played well. Anytime we can leave a game with a smile of our face, to me, that’s a positive thing," he added. There are four games left this year and "I believe that the Lady Clippers are ready to finish out the year strong and hopefully get another “W” for their softball program," Smith added.
