PUTNAM — The Putnam Public School District announced the formation of School Governance Councils at each of its three schools. The purpose of these Councils is to enable parents and the community to work together to improve educational opportunities for all students.
School Governance Councils will serve in an advisory role, helping to analyze school data, advise the school administrators on school budgeting and help in the hiring process for new staff members. Putnam will be following the state model for the membership and selection process to these Councils The state model specifies seven parents, five staff members and two community members be elected to each Council. The model also specifies that each household with a student at a school will have one vote in electing Council members. Anyone seeking to become involved in a school’s Council should check the school’s website for further details.
Schools websites can be reached through the district’s website (www.putnam.k12.ct.us).
Superintendent William Hull said, “Putnam Schools already have strong and wonderful partnerships with parents. These Councils will be another avenue to advance this partnership. Improving community involvement is a Board of Education goal and these Councils strengthen this initiative. Another initiative to support this Board goal will be the development of a strategic plan with community input which will be started by the end of the year”.
